Bible Stuff That Won't Bore You

But the Bible’s so boring!

Okay, let's not beat around the flaming bush, the Bible doesn't always seem like the most exciting thing in the world does it?

Okay, let’s not beat around the burning bush, the Bible doesn’t always seem like the most exciting thing in the world does it? Sometimes the Bible has its appeal, and other times well, it just seems more inviting to do something else with our free time. My numerous World of Warcraft characters and Netflix membership can attest to that

Does it really have to be like this?

Of course not

As humans we tend to seek things that we receive benefit from, not things that make us unhappy or sad. Well, unless we’re totally emo and want to feel that way on some level

Some of the most interesting and exciting times of my life have come when I’ve overcome behavior or thinking that was detrimental to me. I was alway so proud and happy that I was able to move past something that had been a negative influence on my life. The guidance provided through the Bible was an integral part of that process

  • hey, yeah i agree that the Bible can be boring sometimes, and i just realized from you that yes the most exciting or happy times in life is when you have overcome something negative in your life. i found that true with everything so also the Bible can be exciting i haven’t figured out how that’s possible ALL the time except for being in a really close relationship with God cause is IS the Word so you understand it better and if you ask God to help you get whatever you want out of the Bible whether it’s excitement or understanding or both or anything He will make that possible or go to a part of the Bible you really liked and read it over and over and over; you can be the most influential Christian without having to even have the whole Bible memorized it’s just knowing Him is the key to everything.

    • Hi Derek,

The Bible is so important to our lives, but it is no replacement for a direct relationship with God himself. I find myself quoting scriptures to people in a variety of contexts and have discovered there is no replacement for God’s wisdom and knowledge regardless of whether the people I’m speaking to are Christians or not. The truth in God’s word is readily applicable to anyone’s life and is universally pure.

  • boreing? read weapons of mass instruction! (holy bible)
let the spirit of the lord rock yer world! peace, faith, love. God bless you & yours!

  • When I was younger I would read the Bible all of the time, I wanted to read it cover to cover, to impress my parents, and just to say I did it! Not realizing it’s not just about reading it, that’s what made it boring to me before. Now that I REALLY understand what love means, and growing closer to GOD I get excited about reading the Bible because it’s like Wow, God is real, and this is his Word, it’s so POWERFUL, far from boring!

  • When i first picked up the Bible when i was living in Nigeria, it was because there was nothing else to read…literally. And i happened to pick a page from the Old Testament and read about the sacrifices at the temple. i was grossed out by the bloody descriptions…and bored with all the measurements and all the census numbers.

i didn’t pick up the Bible again until i got saved 17 years later. When i read it cover to cover like Speedy Gonzales, most of the Old Testament was a blur, but i got a lot out of the New Testament books.

Today, especially this year, the Holy SPIRIT of GOD has really opened up my understanding so that i actually get excited (and even awed at times) over Bible passages that come alive in my heart.

  • making the Bible exciting has to be approached the same way that a teacher would make history exciting. The Bible is not only full of history but also stories of love and loss, battles and triumphs. You can’t just sit down and read it cover to cover or you won’t get anything out of it. You have to take it a section at a time sometimes even a verse at a time and then ponder it for a while and them move on to the next. Rome wasn’t built in a day and reading the Bible isn’t going to be either. Take your time and enjoy.

    • I love reading the Bible. It is more dynamic than anything I have ever read. Sometimes it smacks me between the eyes with conviction, other times it reminds of the power and love that God inherently is. There is nothing like having the Bible read us the way it does when we read it with God.

  • Hi,
There is no way that a powerful God can be boring or the words of a powerful God.

I notice that many young people today will say that the bible is boring – this is why there is gospel rap, gospel rock, contemporary gospel but nothing to feed the spiritual man only the flesh. I know that times have changed but God never changes – he is the same yesterday, today and forever. Young people get to know and understand the true and living God in a personal relationship through prayer – then and only then will the words of the bible seem to jump off the pages at you.

  • I was a very passionate Christian for many years, but over time I began to realize that It was just a waste of time. Christains always say you need to have a “personal relationship” with god, but try as I did you can’t really have a relationship with God, because god doesn’t have conversations with you or spend time with you that you can notice. And to those who say that ” you just aren’t reading and praying enough”, I’ve read and prayed plenty! I really don’t understand what I am supposed to do with my life now that I’ve already tried Christianity. Life is very empty, but so is Christianity..

  • The Bible has to be the most exciting, intense thing I’ve ever read. I just have to get myself to start reading it and then I can’t put it down. The only problem comes when I’ve read the same portion over and over and have stopped loooking for something new in it.

    • Hello,

It is ironic that when we feel like we have exhausted something in the Bible, God can reveal something by his spirit and astonish us as if we had never read it before in our lives

I find this particularly amusing as he reveals new wisdom and knowledge in things I have read for as long as I can remember–his knowledge truly is hidden except when revealed by his spirit, it is an honor to receive it!

      1 Corinthians 2:14
The man without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him, and he cannot understand them, because they are spiritually discerned
