Bible Stuff That Won't Bore You

Best friends forever: God, our eternal BFF

You know that wonderful feeling when you meet someone and everything just clicks.   Whether it is a new co-worker, or maybe someone you met through friends, but those rare moments of spontaneous, unexpected chemistry feel so good when they happen.

You know that wonderful feeling when you meet someone and everything just clicks.

Whether it is a new co-worker, or maybe someone you met through friends, but those rare moments of spontaneous, unexpected chemistry feel so good when they happen.

You know what I mean.

It is those times when you meet someone new and just “get” each other.

You get each other’s jokes
You laugh at the same things
You like the same food
You enjoy the same music

And in the best of cases, you inherently trust them–sometimes more than long-standing friends.

In this same way, God enjoys our company and friendship, and wants to be close to us all the time. Yes, we sometimes do things that hurt or upset him, but he is forgiving and will overlook things when we really try to work on ourselves and turn our back on negative choices.

Out of all the relationships in life we could possibly spend our time and energy investing in, a friendship with God is the only relationship that will be carried forward into eternity.

In the same way we wouldn’t want to hurt our friends, we should pay special attention to not hurt God’s feelings as well, he is our friend after all.

Nothing hurts God more than sin, and one thing I have grown particularly sensitive to is the moment when God withdraws from me because of something sinful I am doing.

Imagine having a friend over to watch a movie for the night, and picking something to watch that you know will really, *really* will bother them. Say it was a horror movie, or something that they just couldn’t stand watching. Well, for some reason, you decide to watch it with them anyways. And, as expected, the friend finds the movie so offensive they get up and leave your house and don’t return your phone calls for the next few hours.

Being a friend of God is a difficult to grasp sometimes because he is a supernatural being that we can’t even begin to wrap our minds around, but the reality is, he is genuinely sad when we sin because it is so contrary to his nature. If we do things that offend or hurt him, he will withdraw, just like any healthy individual would. He isn’t spiteful, but he is willing to re-enforce his boundaries with us just like any healthy individual would because sometimes it is the only way we learn.

Every day, I want to live a life that God will want to draw close to me for.

1 Peter 3:12
For the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous and his ears are attentive to their prayer, but the face of the Lord is against those who do evil

  • I just recently found your blog, and I think it’s great. The things you write are real, relateable, easy to understand and thought provoking. You are using your gifts for God’s glory and that rocks! ;o)

    • Hi Brittany. Thank you for the encouragement, I am going through a hard time right now with some things I am trying to overcome and this really made my day. It is great to be reminded that we have brothers and sisters in Christ, who give the right words just when they are needed. Thanks again.

  • There is no value that can be placed on buildng a close, personal relationship with God. I think you hit on a great point here because so many seek to do this but don’t know how. I think one of the first steps is seeking his knowledge through the Bible because that is one of the ways he chooses to communicate to us, and then learning how to reach out to him in prayer. I personally have learned how to do these things through the association and discipleship I’ve found in my church. As we seek to draw closer to God, I’d like to share with you a ministry whose goal is to help individuals meet this need. It is called the Modern Evangelism Trust Fund and it works with churches and ministries to spread their message through the media in an effort to draw people closer to God. As a public relations associate for the Trust Fund, I’m seeking to get the word out about this wonderful blessing. I hope you will help spread the word.

    • God is awesome! I can’t even begin to talk about how much he has done in my life. It is important to go out of our way to show our appreciation, and help others enjoy the same relationship of love and happiness by showing and sharing our relationship with God to people. It is good to represent God well by leading a good life and loving others.

  • There is no better best friend. At the lowest point in my life, when I needed a confidant,He was right there. I can’t image life without my Best Friend.
